We have reduced the number of public training courses in 2017 to allow us to give more focus on providing customised training at customer’s premises as we have seen an increased demand for customised training courses, when the customer is seeking training specific to:

REG-D/DA Training Courses

REG-D/DA Introduction
(24 May 2017)

This course is aimed at first time users of the REG-D/DA devices to allow them to become familiar with basic functions of voltage regulation, the various transformer paralleling strategies and transformer monitoring. Hands-on sessions will be provided to experience front panel controls, menu layouts and where to find information, plus the basic use of WinREG Setting software.

REG-D/DA SCADA Communications
(15 November 2017)
Specific training for the SCADA technician/engineer with regard to integrating REG-D/DA into DNP and IEC 61850 environments. The course focus will be on the tools that are used, the applicable settings, and the common issues that affect the communication between the REG-D/DA and SCADA system. MODBUS, DNP 3.0 and IEC 61850 protocols are covered.

REG-D/DA Design Workshop
(No public course but can be run privately)

This course is aimed at the design engineer who seeks to gain an understanding on how to integrate the voltage regulator into their project, what design considerations should be taken on-board to develop a “standard” design and how to calculate the settings required.

REG-D/DA Testing and Commissioning
(On Demand, at your premises)

This customer-specific course is taught using your Test Plan. This makes the training 100 % relevant to your technician's needs covering carry out functional tests of a Transformer voltage control scheme through to commissioning and handover of the REG-D/DA units. This course can also covers the Transformer Monitoring Management (TMM) functions and the application of the REG-D/DA for complete temperature control of a transformer using fans and pumps.

A prerequisite for this training is for you to have a (suitable) Test Plan. If you don’t have your own Test Plan, or if it’s in need of a polish, HV Power can develop/update one with you prior to delivering the course. There will be an additional fee for this.

Siemens Protection Relays, IEC 61850 & PAS

DIGSI 5 & SIPROTEC 5 Introduction

This course introduces DIGSI 5 software, used with the new modular SIPROTEC 5 series Protection Relays. On completion of the course, the participants will be able to:

DIGSI 4 & SIPTROTEC 4 Introduction
(22 February 2017)

This course trains new entrants to the power industry and maintains the skills of other technicians and engineers in the operation of Siemens SIPROTEC relays and the use of DIGSI 4 software. At the completion of the course, the participants will be able to:

Introduction to Protection Design
(No public course but can be run privately)

Provides an overview of the Siemens range of IED’s from a design point of view, covering which device to use where. This course is suitable for engineers new to “protection”. Common utility overcurrent, line differential, distance and transformer protection applications are covered.

DIGSI 4 Advanced
(No public course but can be run privately)
This builds upon the skills developed at “DIGSI 4 & SIPROTEC 4 Introduction” to:

Transformer Protection Design
(No public course but can be run privately)
An introduction to the protection needs of transformers, focusing upon differential protection and restricted earth fault protection - from a design point of view. This course is suitable for engineers and technicians new to “unit protection”.

SIPROTEC 7SD610 Line Differential Testing and Commissioning
(No public course but can be run privately)
 
This course is aimed at the power technicians who are required to install, carry out function tests and commission schemes using SIPROTEC 7SD610 Line Differential Protection Relays. 
(This course has a maximum of 6 participants, with a prerequisite of having completed DIGSI 4 Basic course prior. Secondary injection test-sets required.)

Siemens SIPROTEC 7SJ64 Feeder Relay Testing and Commissioning
(No public course but can be run privately)
This course is aimed at the power technicians who are required to install, carry out function tests and commission schemes using SIPROTEC 7SJ64 Feeder Overcurrent Protection Relays.
(This course has a maximum of 6 participants, with a prerequisite of having completed DIGSI 4 Basic course prior. Secondary injection test-sets required.)

IEC 61850 In Practice
(No public course but can be run privately)

This course is short on theory, but high on practicality. You will be guided using Siemens Protection Relays on how to set up a simple IEC 61850 network with inter-relay communication (using GOOSE Messaging). An ideal course for those who want to experience the power of IEC 61850 systems first hand, and see truly how simple it can be. 
(This course has a maximum of 4 participants, preferably having completed DIGSI 4 Basic course prior.)

SICAM PAS (Power Automation System)7 Basic
(No public course but can be run privately)
This training course introduces the capability of the SICAM PAS 7 system, showing examples of the varied applications possible with SICAM PAS, SICAM PQS (Power Quality System) the SICAM Station Unit and other hardware. While the focus is upon IEC 61850, support for DNP and other protocols is demonstrated.

SICAM PAS (Power Automation System)7 Advanced
(No public course but can be run privately)
This course introduces the setup and configuration aspects of the SICAM PAS 7 system to interface DNP and IEC 61850 relays to a SCADA master.
(This course has a maximum of 6 participants, with a prerequisite of having completed SICAM PAS 7 Basic course prior.)

GPS Time Synchronisation Course

Tekron GPS Time Synchronisation
(No public course but can be run privately)

This half day course is aimed at designers and technicians who specify and work with GPS clocks. Some basic theory is covered so the differences between IRIG-B AM, IRIG-B DCLS, NTP, SNTP, PTP etc and the role of IEEE extensions are understood. A hands-on set up of IRIG-B and NTP ports on a Tekron clock, to sample IED’s is included, together with basic fault finding exercises. System design issues are covered including Lightning Protection and the role of MOFR’s.

On Demand Refresher Courses

If you can't make these dates, or have a specific training need, then keep in mind our "On Demand" Refresher Courses. These offer the opportunity for six hours of one-on-one training in our Auckland workshop. If you’re flying up for the day we organise the training to suit your arrival and departure needs - allowing you to make it a low cost day trip to Auckland if needed. It’s useful to schedule a training visit to be "refreshed" on a particular topic, just prior to an upcoming project/maintenance work where you then put your training into action! While we will attempt to make these courses truly "On Demand", we do ask for a couple of weeks prior notice to confirm our availability. If however, a window of opportunity comes up with less notice, give us a call to see if we can help you.

The content of the "On Demand" courses are intended to be flexible to suit your needs e.g.: commissioning or testing on HV Power supplied equipment. This "one-on-one" training provides the opportunity to have a test run in our workshop. It is also a great environment to test various "what if" scenarios.
