Greenwood-Power Low Power Instrument Transformers

We believe the future of protection lies with low power instrument transformers (LPIT).

Gone are the days of electromechanical protection relays and the 10-15 VA CTs that were needed to drive them. The modern protection relay typically has a 0.1 VA burden, so CTs and VTs can be dramatically smaller and lighter. This leads to simpler mechanical mounting, less wiring, and more compact switchgear. Other advantages include better frequency response, wider range so no multi-ratios CTs needed and less saturation issues.

Therefore, HV Power has partnered with Greenwood-Power, a new (2017) European manufacturer of LPIT devices to bring their products to the New Zealand and Australian markets. It was a no-brainer for HV Power as there is close cooperation with Greenwood-Power and our key suppliers Siemens and A.Eberle This allows us to fulfil our underlying promise that we won't sell a product until we are confident that it does what it claims, and we can fully support it – locally.

There are some new design and testing practices needed and there is not yet a solution for every application. However, join with HV Power and Greenwood-Power and we will assist you on the journey of understanding and applying these new technologies.

Greenwood-Power range includes 11, 22 and 33 kV cable mounted VT sensors and ring or retrofit CT sensors. These can be used with Siemens 7SJ81 Compact Overcurrent Protection Relay, the Siemens 7SY82 LIPT overcurrent protection relay and A.Eberle PQI-DE Power Quality Analyser.
